CSBK Round 3 AMP report

Nova Scotia is one of the most amazing places to visit. The people are awesome, the roads are curvy and the scenery is breath taking, not to mention Atlantic Motorsports Park in Shubenacadie is one of, if not the most technical tracks on the CSBK Canadian circuit today.

Back in 2021 CSBK was putting races together but unfortunately AMP didn’t make the cut due to Covid, however MackWeilRacing managed to make it out East to take part in a track day and a Regional race… and it didn’t go as planned. Mack had a wicked crash that ended his weekend even before it really started and unfortunately that’s how we left it. 2019 was really the last time anyone had ridden AMP so we were hoping (even with his crash) that Mack had an edge because he had ridden there in 2021 but on the smaller bike. This was the hope.

Our trip started out early Monday driving our way across Ontario and Quebec making it to the famous Edmonson NB Walmart where we slept overnight among other camping and racing trailers. From there is was only 6 hours to the track. We camped outside the track gates Tuesday to make sure we had a good chance at getting a premium place to pit inside the race track, AMP is pretty small when it comes to Amateur parking places. Wed we rolled into the Atlantic Motorsport Park and were very lucky with parking.

After we setup our home for the next week we decided as we always do when we are here to visit our favorite place Peggy’s Cove.

Thursdays track day went well. Mack rode well adjusting to the track, the new found speed and power of the 600 as well as learning all the markers needed to ride the bigger bike. Thursday also came with heat warnings but were going to get worse as the weekend progressed.

All week is was 35 but felt like 40

All Week it was over 35 degrees but felt like it was in the 40s

Friday was practice and qualifying. Mack managed to qualify 9th in AM Sportbike and 7th in AM Superbike. His lap times also continued to drop although the heat of the day was starting to drain all the energy and slow everyone down on track.

Saturday practice times Mack started to chip away at, although he wasn’t making the progress he was hoping for. We tried to make some suspension adjustments and decided as well for a new set of tires but that is where disaster struck. There was an important spacer in the rear tire that was left out by accident. Mack was setting up for his first race and on the warmup lap he knew something was wrong. Within the one lap there was enough damage that left the team scrambling for parts through out the paddock resulting in Mack missing both Saturday races which resulted in two DNF’s because the bike wasn’t fixed in time.

Gridding up AM Superbike

Sunday was our day. Mack felt great and was on a mission. His practice times were good although we were more concerned about making sure the bike was fixed and working properly. The AM Sportbike race was first. Mack rode amazingly putting up his fastest time, well over 2 seconds better than anything he had done finishing a solid 6th place. In AM Superbike Mack rode even harder, he even bettered his previous best by almost another second and scored another solid 6th place finish.

Atlantic Motorsports Park is always a great experience. Wonderful, wonderful place to be surrounded by amazing people. We can’t wait to go back.

One more weekend to go and it will be the best yet. Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in our backyard and the place to be to watch Mack run to the front of the pack. Come watch Mack on Aug 12-14, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
